Can ‘O Magic
Genre: Puzzle, Merge
Platform: Android
Players: 1
Role: Producer, 3D Artist
Team Size: 3

About my Role: As the Producer my job was to organize the development of this project, and being that it won first place in competition, that is something I am proud of. It was my first published mobile title and my team-mates were both excellent developers to work with. We communicated well and while some features did get cut, we got a lot done. Can ‘O Magic is a +1 Design based off Suika Game, and it was fun to develop.
Environmental Art
About the SCENE: The player doesn’t leave this scene and the camera is locked in a single perspective, like many puzzle games. That said, I did want there to be an immersive environment, and this scene is the result. First I modeled a block-out in order to scale the scene based on the cameras perspective. I then made all the models, such as the desk and props on the desk. I added an image plane outside the window and adjusted the lighting to match that image. I custom made that image in photoshop using pictures of Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany as reference.
Art Assets
About the Assets: Being that my 2 team mates were coders, I didn’t have to worry about the games technical function. They handled the code quite well. I was the only artist on the team, and all the art was done by me, including: models, textures, music, sound effects, particle effects, and UI. First I made the orbs which are interactable objects, and then I build the scene. Here are some examples of the art I made.
Production Process
About the Production: I have been on both good and bad teams in game development, and this was definitely a good one. My team mates maintained positive communication from start to finish. I was able to see how good producer work can be, and we stayed ahead of the ideal line in our burn-down charts in every sprint. I wasn’t going easy on them by giving points for fluff, and I hardly had to push them. As you can see in these next images, We released via Google Play Store early on to ensure functionality on the mobile device (began Jan 19th). I used Trello for this production and it worked well.
