3D Scanning

What is 3D Scanning?

3D Scanning is the process of capturing the shape and sometimes color of a real world object and converting the captured data into a digital 3D Model. There are many devices that can be used to do 3D Scanning, and there are many purposes that is can be used for including, architecture, manufacturing, entertainment, health-care and much more.

Photogrammetry

Photogrammetry has allowed me to capture real world objects with my own at home set-up. It is great for quickly and effectively replicating complex objects, which can then be used as assets in games or other applications. When conducting photogrammetry I find it best to use scanning software such as Metashape, clean up geometry in ZBrush, and then begin the texturing process in software such as Substance Painter.
